The Music Ministry of First United Methodist Church Longview includes the Chancel Choir, the Kids Connect Choir, our handbell group - Hurst Handbells, a Men’s Singing Quartet, and various other ensembles that perform frequently during the year. Instrumentalists regularly perform in worship services throughout the year, including brass quintets, string quartets, Woodwind ensembles, and an orchestra which performs a new cantata with the Chancel Choir at Christmas and Easter.
There are currently over forty singers in the choir – why not come and sing with us? The Chancel Choir sings music encompassing a wide variety of styles – from the great traditional choral classics to the inspired music of today’s contemporary composers – and we have great fellowship too! The Chancel Choir is frequently accompanied during the year by instrumental ensembles, including strings quartets and brass quintets. The choir performs a large scale work with an orchestra at Christmas and a rousing “God and Country” service on the Sunday preceding July 4.
The Chancel Choir rehearses in the Choir Room every Wednesday evening from 6:30 – 8:15 PM.
Whatever kind of music you are into, the Chancel Choir has something to offer you! Make that leap of faith and join us as we praise God through music!
The Hurst Handbells rehearse at the church on Monday mornings from 11:15 AM - 12:00 PM. They regularly perform during worship services and within the local community throughout the year, including the annual Good Shepherd Auxilliary Staff Christmas Party, and for the residents of local Nursing Homes. The Hurst Handbells is a three-octave handbell group.
Our Kidz Choir is open to all children from age 3 to 6th grade. The children rehearse every Wednesday at 5:30 PM during the school year, and perform regularly in the 10:45 Traditional Sunday morning worship services, including Christmas, Easter, and Mother’s Day. They put on a special Christmas program each year in December!
The Fine Arts Council is part of the Music and Fine Arts Ministry of FUMC Longview, and it is dedicated to bringing a wide variety of fine arts events to our church. Made up of members of the congregation, the council depends entirely on donations from the public in order to fund events planned during the year. Past performances include: the composer Mark Hayes, Phil Wickham, the guitarist Doyle Dykes, the Annie Moses Band, Selah, Mark Schultz, and the Vienna Boys Choir. All events are open to the public and admission is free. If you’d like to find out more about the Fine Arts Council or give a donation, contact Paul at 903-753-4463.
